Hero Revelations

Some of the greatest stories told in Comics are the evolution of a hero. I dig the revelation of a hero’s destiny through their discovery and self-actualization. Many superheroes are not born with extraordinary abilities, but become unique from the time of their origin.

An ordinary man, woman, or child will encounter a scenario that challenges their whole comprehension of reality and manifests powers that expose their true identity. Absolutes previously based on acceptance of the grand design become suspect as transformation kicks in and the hero emerges. This September, NBC will attempt to escalate this traditional style of hero storytelling to the next-level in a new drama entitled, “Heroes“:

“Some people are born extraordinary. They thought they were like everyone else..until they woke with incredible abilities. In Japan, a lowly office worker can teleport at will. In New York, a struggling artist can paint the future. In Los Angeles, a discontented beat cop can hear the thoughts of others. Elsehwere, a highschool cheerleader discovers she is unbreakable and a single mom realizes she has a powerful alter ego. Heroes chronicles the lives of these people and the lives of others like them - whose destiny might be saving all mankind.”

When successfully crafted with a flavor that is undeniably on point, this prototypical hero metamorphasis will impact human sensibilities that each of us possess at our core.
Heroes has the potential to lend an Unbreakable style report on the defiance of commonplace perception and logic. Ultimately the true test of Heroes will be to provide solid entertainment and to motivate the viewers to challenge the unknown through discovery and self-actualization of the hero within all of us.

    Heroes! Solid.
I like the idea of our Super Powers being within our realm of physical (also social, emotional) possibilities. Such as speaking up against opression, poverty, injustice. Sometimes, very simple actions are so overwhelmingly opposed at large, that people are compelled to apathy. Forgiveness is one. The power to Forgive!
And, these powers, that we possess can be used for Ultimate Good or Evil. Think of how withholding forgiveness from someone who has apologized genuinely, keeps them under the thumb. Keeps them in bondage.

These are my final thoughts as I slowly head towards my bed. In Australia, someone told me, that people who stick their necks out. People who try their best despite the mediocrity of their peers suffer from “Tall Poppy Syndrome.” As in, when a flower, exceeds the normal height in a bed of flowers, exceeds the status quo, it is trimmed back, cut off. Decapitated. Why? Because they make everyone look bad? Because others are afraid they’ll have to work harder, meet higher expectations?

I say, those of us that feel the aspirations to grow and push past where others have stopped, need the support. Perhaps, all the tall poppies need armor-plated stalk collars. Try and cut that!

This is the Biggest thing, right in that verse. Ordinary people, and i’m going to use this as an example.
One day a man wakes up, after a major life change. He feels broken, yet he feels energized at the same time. He has lost what seems to be Everything….he sits down at his desk, it is raining out, the window is open a crack, suddenly he begins to write…and his pen just hardly leaves the paper, thoughts PUSH into his head almost as if someone Bigger is Shoving them into his head and he is left with an unstoppable urge to GET IT OUT!
Suddenly he is challenged, however it came naturally.
His pain, this point in his life, created this. He doesn’t understand HOW he wrote an entire BOOK, anymore than a musician doesn’t always know where THe Music comes from, it just does.
    To me that is Extraordinary.
Imagine a Superhero that Never Uses his/her power. Now that would be a waste.
What I’m saying, is we ALL have that ‘ability’ to do something Grande! We just havn’t all been presented the opportunity to LEAP with it, but do trust, that it WILL happen, so Do Be Prepared!
