ABSOLUTE GALACTUS — The Origin
A giant sized powerhouse that consumes planets in an attempt to satiate an undying hunger that forever consumes him. What do we really know about him? Where did he come from? What extraordinary circumstances gave birth to a being whose sole purpose appears to be destroying other worlds, other civilzations? Are there others like him? What is the true extent of his power?
In March of 1966 when GALACTUS burst into the Comics scene in Fantastic Four #48, the true nature of his being was a mystery. Though the pages of the Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer drop some science on the origins of the devourer, it wasnt until GALACTUS The Origin that we finally begin to understand Galan of Taa.

For the sole survivor of Taa it is clear that it’s the will of the man that surfaced the power of GALACTUS. The desire to live consumes him and the devourer is born into the new universe.
Thus did GALACTUS come to be… Of all the creatures in the vastness of the universe, there is none like me. I was present at the birth of the universe, and I shall be there at its end. Though I ravage worlds to live, I bear no malice to any living thing. I simply do what I must to survive. And why must GALACTUS survive? For, no matter how many worlds I devour… How many civilizations I destroy… It is my destiny to one day give back to the universe — infinitely more than I have ever taken from it. So speaks GALACTUS!

To my knowledge there is no other absolute collection of GALACTUS in existence. This first capture in my collection heralds the tide of my own insatiable hustle to devour every appearance GALACTUS. Still, I hunger. Bahlactus has Spoken.

I’d comment, but I’m Galactose intolerant.

The world Devourer in all of his glory. I’ve got a life-sized Galactus in my rec room at home that I airbrushed about 2 years ago. The image is taken from the cover of the Fantastic Four #244 or #245 or something. Its the one that he’s fighting the FF and some of the Avengers with Doctor Strange on it. That was in the middle of the master John Byrne’s incredible run on Ff. I have this issue of Absolute Galactus. Great read. Do you think that they’ll mention Galactus at all in some way in the next FF movie seeing as there’s going to be Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer in it?

Luke, thanks for comin’ through. Galactus is a huge character and not just in size. I can’t see going from Doom to Galactus just yet. Then again, where there is the herald, soon after comes the hunger and the devourer.
BTW, although the Origins is a compilation of Galactus, it’s not actually called “Absolute Galactus” (thats the name of my collection of every appearance of Galactus which this column is about!)
Check in each week for a new post about Galactus as I build my collection. Until then, be easy! Bahlactus has spoken.

[…] I’ve already posted about the origin of GALACTUS, and have also dropped some Comics clue on other appearances of the devourer — none of that compares to the very first appearance of GALACTUS in Fantastic Four #48. […]

Where exactly does Galactus’s origins get revealed? Devourer of Worlds? Is there a series called Galactus: Rebirth as it says so on wikipedia? Please enlighten.

The origins of GALACTUS are laid out pretty solid in this particlar Comic issue that this post covers. If you can, try to get down with this and it explains all. I’ve not collected the GALACTUS:Rebirth mentioned in Wikipedia, but, this issue called “Origins” puts it together well. Thanks for stoppin’ through.
