Dark Stars: Blade

After a cameo in Tomb of Dracula #1, we’re able to get down with a proper first appearance of Blade in this issue. I definitely dig this cat more than todays daywalker. How tight is it that a Black man can run around, just killin’ vampires and the first time we truly see him, he goes head up with Dracula himself! For what this issue cost to include in my Dark Stars collection, there could have been more…this is not a Blade origin issue.

Oh, he wasn’t half-Vamp back then? Why do you like that version better?

“Maybe you’re hot stuff back in Transylvania, but nobody messes with Blade the Vampire Slayer!”
That is some awesome smack-talk.

West, from the two issues of Tomb of Dracula that I have (#1, #10), it’s not clear that he’s half. I haven’t read #1 in a hot minute, i’ll have to get down with it again soon.

The original blade looks so much cooler than the re-vamp (no pun intended).

You guys are killin’ me.
Green pants, brownish/reddish jacket, green shades, and… PINK BLADES make a cooler Blade?

West, the blades aren’t pink, but, the wood may look that way since I bumped the contrast when editing the cover I scanned. I actually prefer the Nighstalker version of blade, with the all black leathers, and the red turtleneck/neckerchief…

I remember being kinda iffy, when it came to the red fashion highlights, but I eventually came around since they were pretty cool, visually. And that opening sequence was too tight for words (too bad the flick wasn’t quite as coolly stylized as the opening sequence).

West, True — I’m not talkin’ about movie Blade. I’ll have to slide a picture so you can see what I’m rappin’ about. Time to get ready for Friday Night Fights!!!

I also prefer the comic version of Blade rather than the Daywalker movie version. In the comics Blade wasn’t half vampire, he also actually had a personality to go along with his fighting skills, so that was also a plus. Add into the fact that he payed the bills by playing Jazz, and you got yourself a true Dark Star.
