“…no, I don’t hate Balboa, but, I pity the fool…”

“…and I will destroy any man who tries to take what I got…”

On Monday I rang the dinnerbell, sounding the official end of the first championchip fight. I mentioned I’d get down with a Tale of the Tape, which covered my own devastating power-punches from the first 12 rounds, so, here it is!!! The next play-per-view event begins June 22nd and it’s called Friday Night FightsUppercut. Think you can challenge me?!? Come at me paper champion!!! Bahlactus has spoken.

SHOUT-OUT! Ask Cerebra

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Kevin Church isn’t the type of cat that I know to ever be short on ideas. His latest brainchild, Ask Cerebra, is a Comics blog search engine. Like all things cosmic, it’s powered by Google. Church recently posted about the project and is dropping clue via his recent announcement and initial project post.

SHOUT-OUT! Cover Girl — REVIEW

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

BOOM! Studios Cover Girl, slaps the taste out of Hollywood’s mouth. Straight out of Beantown — Kevin Church’s scripting is right-on-time and he’s definitely leaving his mark on the Comics industry. He tag-teams with Andrew Crosby’s plotline, and the pencils by Mateus Santolouco really solidifies the whole Hollywood cinematic flavor of the Comic (and don’t sleep on those covers by Albuquerque).

Cover Girl revolves around struggling actor Alex Martin who crash-lands into the limelight after heroically trying to save a car accident victim — that he just ran off the road a few seconds earlier! The pace of the story goes from zero-to-sixty pretty quickly as Alex bursts into superstardom and begins to make his rounds as the bonifide man to watch. It doesn’t take long for Alex to get a taste of the action and finds out the grass may be greener on the other side of the tracks.

After the incident, Martin’s manager contracts some muscle to handle protection — enter Rachel Dodd. Make no mistake, this lady is the forreal meal deal. Crosby may have created Cover Girl, but Church is the one bringing the heat with a stage comedians timing. The dialog-play between Rachel and Alex is classic. Half the time, I don’t know whether to laugh our punch Martin straight in his mouth! You have to wonder, how much of Alex Martin’s character is Church personified. Given what I’ve seen from his scripting so far, BOOM! may have a winner with Church scripting the action, especially when it’s time to push this as a TPB.

The artistic tone of Cover Girl is near-perfect thanks to Santolouco laying down some solid pencils to visually beef up the Hollywood shuffle of the Comic. I dig his art style a lot. A serious mix of Next-Wave Immonen, Hamner, and a subtle taste of Oeming. There isn’t a whole lot going down in the background of the panels, but, there is enough happening in the foreground to make you happily dismiss it. I can also appreciate the fact that even though this is Hollywood, the colors don’t scream Vice City.

I’m definitely looking forward to how this plays out and recommend that you get down with Cover Girl immediately. Don’t wait for the trade. I’d rate this as all-audiences-enjoyable. Hit up your local Comics shop and ask them to keep this in heavy rotation on the shelves. Bahlactus has spoken.

SHOUT-OUT! Bahlactus Devours!!!

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

I’ve been consuming some new Comics blogs in the past couple of weeks and rather than play like a Marvel zombie and hoard the take, I’ve decided to share so that everyone taste the flavor. This will likely be on the regular, so you should come through and dig in as I believe these blogs are worth devouring.

Noetic Concordance recently caught my attention, especially the Awesome Cover Friday posts by Vaklam. The most recent coverage featured Comics favorite kung-fu master, Shang-Chi, and Vaklam showed some solid crate-diggin’ expertise which I could appreciate. Shang-Chi vs. Doom, Shang-Chi vs. Man Thing, and Shang-Chi vs. The Red Baron!!! Definitely get down with Vaklam. We’ll see if he can top this.

Comic Coverage is definitely getting added to my regular rotation. There is something going down in the mind of Mark Engblom, and you it’s apparent when he drops gold nuggets like these. I bet Busta Rhymes would make a solid sidekick for the Fox — Woo-HAH, I gots you ALL in check!!! Don’t sleep on this site. I’m looking forward to more — Jay Garrick and 4 out of 5 surgeons agree!!!

Kevin Church has masterminded The Comics Blog Search Engine — this is going to be a solid resource as it starts to obtain more content and especially since it’s powered by Google. Be sure to slide Church an email if you search and it doesn’t turn up the content you’re digging for.

Friday Night Fights — Dinner Bell!!!

Monday, June 4th, 2007

“…nothing is over, until it’s over…”

For twelve spleen bursting rounds, I have been hitting you with some of the best shots in Comics. Never one to shadowbox, I issued the call to several Comics bloggers who I knew would come at me with everything they had. Every round saw more and more fighters tagging into the ring and throwing combos so devastating, blows so hard, your next of kin would feel it!!! There has been alot of slow singin’ and flower bringin’ as some entered, but never left the ring. To those fallen soldiers I extend a big shout-out! Keep fighting in that big ring in the sky.

If you didn’t know, there are 12-rounds in championchip boxing before a prize-fight is over. This Play-Per-View event has ended, but, Friday Night Fights is far from over. Between every 3-minute round, there is a 1-minute break. After 12-rounds of pain, each fighter that has thrown down here at Always Bet on Bahlactus deserves some time to rest-up and get their minds right…before the battle rages on. To that end, I’m officially issuing a TWO-WEEK downtime. Friday Night Fights ain’t over. It’s definitely not over. In fact, at the end of this week I’m dropping a Friday Night Fights — Tale of the Tape recap of the atom bombs that I personally have been dropping over the past 12-rounds. I definitely encourage you to consider doing the same. If you do, drop me an email and I’ll include a link in my own tale of the tape.

Stop through this Friday and check out the highlight reel. Take next week off and heal up. The next PPV event officially begins on June 22nd. Do you think you’ve got what it takes to challenge me?!? Come at me!!! See you back in the ring in two weeks. Bahlactus has spoken.
