SHOUT-OUT! The Ride “Die Valkyrie” — REVIEW

The Ride “Die Valkyrie”, is a three-issue mini out of Image and it may turn out to be the sleeper hit of the summer. Masterminded by Doug Wagner and pencilled by Brian Stelfreeze (who is co-writing the mini), the series is screaming guns, chicks, and whips (i.e. CARS). It’s no mystery who the target audience should be, but, elements in the first issue hint at major empowerment for the ladies.
So far, the story centers around three girls who steal a black 1968 Camaro RS/SS and ride-out with revenge on the menu. The other story going down in the issue involves Laci — a young girl with a past and she’s been taken in by a group of nuns. It’s not clear how the two stories will tag-team with each other, but, believe there will be a LOT of bullets and death involved.
Wagner has pulled me in with the base storyline and I’m looking forward to how the rest will play out. The first page tosses you in head-first and by the third page I was committed like a new inmate at Arkham! With only three issues to pull it all together, it’s clear that Wagner will have to really set-it-off in the second issue and maintain a fast pace until the finish-line.
The art stylings by Stelfreeze work well with the black and white interior of the first issue. He’s got a solid arsenal of diversity in facial expressions as well as portraying the different cultural flavor and postures of the girls. With a few different looks at the RS/SS in the issue, it’s clear that Stelfreeze has done his homework and the artistic flavor definitely furthered my investment into these ride-or-die Valkyries.
The Ride, “Die Valkyrie” should make for a solid TPB — even if you wait for it, it’s worth the stretch. Bahlactus has spoken.

Stelfreeze == automatic attention from me.
Stelfreeze + hot chicks + senseless violence == a must read.
I’ll have to check this one out. Thanks for the pointer!

Oh, HELL yeah! Thanks for posting this. I didn’t know about it and I agree with Allen that anything Stelfreeze is attached to gets me to pick it up. I run into Brian at Dragon*Con every now and then and he’s a cool guy as well as a great artist.
