Shout-Out! On the Shelf

On the real, I am starting to feel a bit burnt out on Comics. Not all Comics. But, definitely some of them. Luckily, I have a respectable stack of unread trades and hard-bounds that are queued up (and are definitely worth reading) that could keep me satiated for at least three months.

Comics such as Sentences: The life of M.F. Grimm. Hopefully you’ve gotten the memo that I am down with hip-hop; I’ve been looking forward to this book for over a year and it’s time to crack it open. For a couple of weeks since I picked it up, I have also been eyeballing Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen “Black Dossier”. Moore is an acquired taste, however, I cut my teeth on the Watchmen like so many others and the league has always been a secret fascination for me.

Jack Kirby has really been a champion for me this year as I am working my way through all three volumes of his Fourth World OMNIBUS series. Volume 3 dropped a couple of weeks ago; I am still digesting Volume 2, but, it has been a solid ride so far. Also marked for reading in my Kirby queue are the Silver StarGalactic Bounty Hunters(MARVEL).

There are so many Comics to be devoured in my trades and hard-bound collection that I know I will be covered until these publishing houses start putting out solid monthly issues worth the stretch (of reading). For now, I will dig into the books in my library still shrink-wrapped, sitting, and waiting, for my amazement and wonder. What is on your shelves that moves you? Hit me and let me know. I still haven’t made it through Silver Star, but I’m knocking out those Fourth World omnibii like they were candy. Mind-blowing, world-wrecking, delicious candy.

I just re-read - again - the Doctor 13: Architecture & Mortality trade. It’s a slim little volume, but man is it packed with story. And it’s an old one, but I really dig the Steranko Nick Fury, Agent of Shield trade.

I have an unhealthy pile of unread trades and hardcovers picture books in my library as well. It’s weird, I keep buying new stuff and then I add them to the “to-read” pile and then I go and re-read some old comic!

    What the hell??

I think I should sit down this weekend and start reading that Tellos vol. 1 HC. Mike Weiringo, R.I.P

The Legion of Super-Heroes cartoon has got me really psyched for Legion as a whole, so I’m rewarding myself after National Novel Writing Month with a slew of Legion trades.

Enjoy those Fourth World hardcovers; I’m hoping to find them under my tree this month.

I started reading Talent over breakfast and I am digging this quite a bit. It’s a short read (the form-factor of the book is small) and will probably finish it before devouring a small moon for dessert. Get down with it if you haven’t already. Bahlactus has spoken.
