SHOUT-OUT! The Falcon Week — Day 5
Friday, October 19th, 2007

Oh Snap! Wilson week continues, with this third issue of The Falcon mini-series. What has really been interesting so far is the depth of the character story for Sam Wilson — he used to be a bad-guy, turned good guy, by a bad guy. When he was first revealed, none of that development was actually in place (Shout-Out! to commenter J. Kevin Carrier for the Comics clue on Falcon’s back story).
Imagine, if you could follow one character through every appearance they’ve had in Comics, who would it be? I am doing this exact thing with GALACTUS, and my insight into the character is growing more solid with each of his appearances that gets added to my collection.
The appreciation for the character over time is more significant when you are able to consider their entire life from their creation to present-day. Who do you want to know more about? Me? I am going to dig into Sam “Snap” Wilson — clearly someone attempted to get creative with the bad-guy-turned-good archetype (and that makes the character more appealing for me!) Bahlactus has spoken.

I dig this cover quite a bit. The dark ominous Sentinel in the background is reminiscent of GALACTUS, which can’t help but add to the flavor of the presentation. It is definitely an omen, and is revealed in this second issue of the limited mini-series, The Falcon — Sam Wilson is a mutant.
He is able to establish a psychic bond between himself and Redwing. I suspect there have been quite a few allusions to this revelation. Did it happen in Captain America #119-#120? (not yet part of my collection) — possibly! I wonder if Black Panther is the only Black superhero that did not originate from the ghetto?
It would seem that The Falcon, Green Lantern, and Black Goliath, have hailed from down on skid row. Clearly, being from the streets — bitch!!! yields some advantages:

The Falcon Week continues…Bahlactus has spoken.

I can’t decide, which one of the Falcon’s outfits is better. On the one hand, I dig the green with the wings painted on the back — but on the other side, the physical wings under the arms is a solid look. What do you cats think? Look for a follow-up cover around lunchtime tomorrow!!! I am looking forward to the big reveal that happens in this mini-series — playing catch-up on a Comics character history is always something worth crate-digging for. What are some of your favorite Falcon stories? Lay it on me. Bahlactus has spoken.

All week on Always Bet on Bahlactus, I will be celebrating one of the tightest Black superheroes in the game — The Falcon. I have already posted the Falcon’s first appearance (Captain America #117 and recently added to my own Dark Stars collection) — it makes sense to kick-off this Falcon highlight week with his second appearance!!!
